Things for Indian Government to look for in Data Center Security

India is emerging as one of the most preferred markets for IT investments. Favorable demographics, managerial capabilities and improving governance in the nation are the key factors behind the rapid growth of data center infrastructure in India.

There have been increased cases of data theft, security attacks among several other cyber crimes all over the world. So, every country needs to strengthen its IT security legislation.

In spite of remarkable IT advancement in India, there still exist few important considerations that are required to be looked by Indian Government in order to ensure 100 percent data center security.

Things for Indian Government to look for in Data Center Security

  • Lack of data Privacy Legislation: Due to absence of data protection legislation in India, most of the American companies which have invested in outsourcing firm in India, are bound to use security technologies to mask the data in order to avoid any data tracing risks. When India will have data protection rules, these companies will be able to move data easily to India.
  • DDoS attacks: In last few years DDoS attacks have become increasingly frequent and great deal of data is lost. The Indian government should enforce necessary regulations for firewall safety to waive off any attempt of server attack by hackers. In cases where data is stored in any foreign country, the cyber security legislation of that country will be considered for any incidence of litigation. So Indian Government needs to frame its own cyber security laws and standards, aligned with the regulations worldwide.

Indian government has started taking steps towards the data center security through introduction of many legal provisions as well as amendments in existing rules. Data protection and confidentiality laws are soon to be enforced in India. 'Digital India' is going to completely transform the IT spectrum in the subcontinent.

Measures have also been taken to encourage Indian companies to store their data in Indian data center instead of looking toward the foreign countries. ‘Make in India’ revolutions have resulted in development plans of data center park in India which will be spread across 100 acres of land. It will open several avenues for IT and ITeS sector in India.

Earlier, there were lack of reliability on the Indian data centers due to security reasons but now India is projected to be one of the largest data center hubs in the world, in the next few years.
